"I’m helplessly inspired by the human figure. My pieces develop themselves as I work, they morph back and forth, male to female and back again, before the form is finalized. This fascinates me.

I do sculpture because I crave the hands-on. I’ve always been that kind of tactile individual. Even when painting a sculpture, as a three-dimensional canvas, I avoid brushes. I prefer gobs of paint applied with rags, the color application flows better with my fingers. I work and rework the surfaces by sanding, wire brushing, rubbing through previous layers, subtracting.

All I want to do is to involve people in my work. Art is an inspiration. I love to sit in a room and be surrounded by inspiration. When I buy art, it has to keep me involved. I must to be able to go to that painting or sculpture every day and be engaged by it. I set the same criterion for my own work. It must evolve in your thought process, revealing itself, day by day, showing things you didn’t see before, and it must speak to you."
